Since the return of Corey Perry, Bobby Ryan has been sitting in the press box. Since he's obviously not going to get the start over Doug Weight or Brian Sutherby, the Ducks re-assigned him to Portland. I think it'll be better for him to play in the Calder Playoffs with the Portland Pirates than to sit around and do nothing.
Thanks, Bobby for the help. Hope to see you again sometime in the future.

Ducks Win; Still Down 3-2
Throughout the series, I've been giving the Ducks the cold shoulder -- and rightfully so.
Tonight, they deserve some attention.
Right out of the gate, the Ducks showed that they meant business. They showed me something I hadn't seen since the '07 Stanley Cup Playoffs; something I didn't expect to see this year around: Heart, Sacrifice and Passion.
They left their hearts on that ice in Anaheim tonight. Some people may only categorize their performance tonight as "desperate hockey" but I'd have to disagree. No doubt they wanted the win tonight, but a totally desperate hockey team doesn't have the swagger that the Ducks had tonight. I think they had more heart tonight than they did in Game 3.
They really sacrificed their bodies, playing their mean Ducks hockey and laying the body on every Star in sight on that ice. By blocking shots, they surprised me a great deal. This isn't a shot blocking team, but that was changed up a little as they continually dove in front of pucks.
Passion flickered in the eyes of the Ducks' stars, as they all stepped it up a notch and then some. Teemu Selanne, Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry all got themselves on the score sheet and played a nice game. Jean-Sebastien Giguere finally had himself a pat-on-the-back night, with virtually every puck that hit him sticking to him like Velcro. Scott Niedermayer was also looking like his old phantom-ghost self, being everywhere on the ice.
I kept preaching about how the Ducks needed to step it up; how they needed to seem like they wanted to play. They did all that and more tonight. Like I said, this doesn't look like a completely desperate team. They have their confidence and their swagger back. Now with the momentum on their side, they'll fight for every inch of ice. I expect to see them play like this for the rest of the series. It tooked them a while to finally arrive to the postseason, but I suppose it's better late than never.

Ducks down 2-0 in series against Stars
If you don't believe, you don't belong.
That's basically all I have to say. Well, that's the short version of it anyways.
This team has proven to me why they SHOULDN'T be in the playoffs.
There's so many things missing. No effort, no passion, no heart, no sacrifice... and that's just the surface of it all. Just the surface of this complete mess called a hockey team.
Supposedly, there's a rule. Once your team has won the Stanley Cup, there is no bitching and complaining for five years after that. You know what I say to that? Fuck that!
Once you tasted victory, once you taste the ultimate dream that is the Stanley Cup, you should always crave it; not be satisfied with it. What the hell is wrong with them?
What, do they believe that since they made the postseason the year after they won the Stanley Cup, you just give a pat on your back and say "Good job! We've done something that hasn't been done in some time, boys"
How about you repeat as Stanley Cup Champions? Even better -- how about you look like you want to even be in the playoffs? Like you actually want to put some passion and effort into some extra hockey?
Will they seriously be okay with being knocked out in the first round? Will they seriously be chill about possibly being swept? What's the point of even making it to the playoffs then? There is none.
I've seen two shite games since the NHL playoffs started, and they both go to the Ducks. Out of all the NHL playoff games I've seen, the goddamned Defending Champions are acting like they are being bothered with the extra games.
This isn't the team I cheered for during last year. This isn't the team I was cheering for a couple weeks ago. I don't know who the fuck is out on ice. All I know is that the Ducks better show at Game 3. If not, I'm not too sure I'll even bother with Game 4. They won't, so why should I?
What an embarrassment. What an absolute disgrace.
If you don't believe, you don't belong. So Ducks, kick it into gear, or at least make the games interesting, or get the fuck out.

2008 Stanley Cup Playoffs Are Here!
This is honestly my favorite time of the year. There is NOTHING better in all this world than playoff hockey. I've already declared that for the next two months, I'll have absolutely no life. All I need is my cable to work and I'm good to go. While in Southern California, the atmosphere outside isn't quite like it would be in Canada, the energy inside the Honda Center is going to be absolutely insane. The electricity and the energy in that building is something that is unique to only Duck fans. It's so intense you can't breathe. I've been looking forward to the playoffs since September, when the regular season started.
Even if your team isn't in the playoffs (HAHAHAHAAHAHAHA CANUCKS!) it's still an exciting event for every hockey fan. I'm stoked and ready for this year.
In the East, the match-ups look a little something like this:
1 Montreal vs 8 Boston
2 Pittsburgh vs 7 Ottawa
3 Washington vs 6 Philadelphia
4 New Jersey vs 5 New York Rangers
The Montreal and Boston match-up is one I look forward to. Montreal has a great team right now, and even though I hate to say it, I don't see too much hope for the Bruins. They play the series opener at the Bell Centre in Montreal tonight. Last night, the panel at Versus were talking about who had to be monumental to their team, and I hate to say that I AGREE with them. Phil Kessel has got to be friggin' awesome, and if Chara continues to be the dominating force that he is, they'll give Montreal a run for their money. I still like Montreal in this series though, and think they'll make it as far as the ECF. MONTREAL IN 6.
Pittsburgh and Ottawa played their first game at the Mellon Arena last night, with the Pens emerging victoriously with a 4-0 shutout. Ouch, Sens. Penguins look damn scary in my opinion, and with 41-year-old veteran Gary Roberts scoring a pair in the game, shows me everyone on that team is stepping it up, kicking it up a few notches to win the cup this year. I like this Pens for the Stanley Cup this year, and that pains me as a Duck fan to say. I don't think Ottawa stands much of a chance, especially with league-leading shot blocker Anton Volchenkov day-to-day, and Alfredsson hanging out in the press box. Strange fact is that the Pens are the only home team to win last night. PITTSBURGH IN 5.
Washington and Philadelphia will be an interesting match-up. It's the first time that Alexander Ovechkin carried his team to the playoffs, and I wonder how much the team will kick it up to win it for 8 the Great. I have to say that I like Philadelphia in this series, as they are a pretty rough team that can wear down the Caps. PHILLY IN 6.
New Jersey and the New York Rangers also played last night, with the Rangers winning. I don't know too much about these two teams, it shames me to admit. I just hope that the Rangers can kick the living crap out of the Devils. NEW YORK RANGERS IN 6.
Heading out West, this is what it looks like:
1 Detroit vs 8 Nashville
2 San Jose vs 7 Calgary
3 Minnesota vs 6 Colorado
4 Anaheim vs 5 Dallas
Detroit and Nashville's game started about four minutes ago. Although I would love for Trashville to knock out the Red Wings, there's honestly a better chance of the War in Iraq to end tomorrow. DETROIT IN 4.
San Jose and Calgary got physical last night, with Calgary beating the Stanley Cup favorites. I can already tell this is gonna be a hard fought series. They literally will be fighting and battling for every inch. I see this series going to 7 games, and the only one in the opening round to do so. By the way, don't tell me you missed that Jarome Iginla play. You know, the one where he had Brian Campbell all over him, but being determined-as-hell Jarome, he battled through it and got the puck to the front of the net, which led to Stephane Yelle scoring the game-winning goal? Yeah, I didn't think you missed that. What a play that was. It's plays like that that make me respect how much of a hard worker Jarome is. He never gave up on that play and even though he was falling all over the place, still kept the puck in his possession. Calgary will most definitely give the Sharks a good series, but I still see the Sharks going deep in the playoffs. SAN JOSE IN 7.
Minnesota and Colorado -- what the hell? Colorado continues to surprise me. I thought once Joe Sakic went down, so did their playoff chances, but Hejduk and Brunette had other plans as they took over that team and kept it in playoff contention. With the Trade Deadline acquisition of Ruslan Salei, I really like this team over the Wild. This game went into OT last night, with the Avs winning it. Guess who got the OTGWG? That's right, Joe Sakic, who else. COLORADO IN 6.
Anaheim and Dallas face off tonight at the Honda Center. Everyone seems to be worried about the Ducks, but I'm not in the least. Dallas might have won the regular season series, but that means little once playoffs start. With Zubov out, it makes things a lot easier for the Ducks. Corey Perry is rumored to return as early as Game 3. If he does return, I REALLY like the Ducks in this series. I don't ever give a prediction on my team, because I fear it to be terribly bad luck.
----
I really expect this to be an awesome year for the playoffs, and I feel like I wont be disappointed. Cheers to all the teams and fans that have made it this far!

Ducks defeat Yotes in Shootout 3-2; 4-6-08
So after taking on the 'dare' of not updating my blog until Pronger had returned from suspension, I myself have returned, and it's a tad bittersweet.
While the Ducks managed to win their Fan Appreciation night in true Ducks fashion by going down two goals, and rallying to tie it up with something like eight minutes left in the third period, after completely sleeping the first two and a half periods. Then they win in the SO which is a nice touch, I guess. But why is it that the Ducks always end up in the shootout against Bryzgalov?
Anyways, other than the win, the bittersweet part of it all is that Pronger's knee/ankle might be in trouble. Shane Doan, the big oaf, fell on Pronger's leg and twisted either the knee or the ankle or Pronger. While Pronger himself said that it was no big deal and that he escaped injury, I can't help but think that's the playoff mentality talking. He looked to be in some pretty serious pain, but knowing Pronger, and the beast that he is, I'm sure he'll be all right. This is the guy that had a separated shoulder and still played the last game of the playoffs, and took some good hits with that shoulder, too. He's a determined guy, he wouldn't let something minuscule stop him.
As far as the game goes, Hiller looked a little bit nervous in the first two periods. The fact that it was Fan Appreciation Night must have gotten to him. But he did very well and killed in the shootout.
Pronger looked a little rusty, making some pretty bad mistakes, but I'm sure he'll get back in the swing of things quickly.
Ryan Carter started the game tonight, and his number was changed from #52 to #20. That's a clear interpretation that Carter has impressed the Ducks coaching staff, and that he wont be going back down to Portland. Ever. I actually suspect that he'll take Weight's place and be the second line center for next season.
Daniel Carcillo, the newest Sean Avery in the Pacific Division, had himself two goals. I was mad.
Anyway, I'll spare the rest of you with my rusty blogging and give you the scoring summary.

Ducks vs St. Louis; 3-15-08
First, I'd like to open this with an article written by Yahoo! Sports' own Ross McKeon. He titles his glorious article, "Pronger's a Sitting Duck". Let's take a gander at a few of the things he says in his article.
I'll tell you what, I love the way he words everything. It's funny to read him belly-aching about how Pronger only got eight games. I've already addressed WHY he did, I wont bore you with the same thing all over again. But this is American Journalism at it's finest. To be honest, I rarely read any of the American media outlets when it comes to Hockey because quite frankly, I feel they don't know the game as much as Canadians do. All this guy is doing is continuing with what everyone else is saying, and not having a mind of his own. But I've seen worse.
Another grand quote is this one.
There's a little something-something this man is forgetting. The Ducks have always looked adversity straight in the face, and have always emerged victoriously. As it stands right now, the Ducks are currently undefeated with Pronger sitting for suspension.
Besides even that, the Ducks have jumped from 3rd to 2nd in the Pacific Division, and only trail the Sharks by three points. Does this seem unachievable to Mr. McKeon? If so, I'd have to just laugh in his face. The Ducks still face the Sharks two more times this season, and if he thinks that these wont be important games, then he's horribly wrong. If he thinks that the Pacific Division Title is out of the reach of the Ducks, then he's even more wrong.
I have to say, it's nice to see all the journalists just seeping out of the woodwork and posting up a article about things they know little about. It truly warms my heart.
Okay, let's break away from McKeon's obvious ignorance, and focus on the game. The Ducks defeated the Blues 5-2; further continuing the undefeated streak without Pronger. Once again, the Checking Line proved to be vital to their win, as Robbie Niedermayer got two goals, including the game winning goal. This line always steps it up come playoff time, and it looks like they'll be an even fiercer force this time around.
Scoring Summary:
First period
Ducks goal: Mathieu Schneider (10) [Selanne, Huskins]
Second period
Blues goal: Jamal Mayers (10) [McClement, Woywitka]
Ducks goal: Teemu Selanne (8) [Schneider, S.Niedermayer] PP goal
Third period
Blues goal: Jeff Woywitka (1) [Polak, Boyes]
Ducks goal: Rob Niedermayer (7) [unassisted]
Ducks goal: Rob Niedermayer (8) [Moen, Pahlsson]
Ducks goal: Ryan Getzlaf (23) [Pahlsson, Schneider]
Goalies - J.S. Giguere; Manny Legace
With this win, the Ducks leaped to second place in the division, and to fourth place in the conference. I almost wonder if a certain someone is biting his tongue now.
"First and foremost, this was a stupid split-second decision by Pronger. During a season in which Florida’s Richard Zednik suffered a serious neck injury due to an accidental skate blade, and then-Islanders forward Chris Simon was suspended 30 games for stomping on the foot of Pittsburgh’s Jarkko Ruutu, how could Pronger be so insensitive with his actions? And how could Pronger get only eight games? This is his eighth suspension. It’s not like he has a light rap sheet."

Another grand quote is this one.
"How does it affect the Ducks in the standings? Not much. With or without Pronger, Anaheim didn’t have a great chance to finish anywhere other than fourth or fifth in the Western Conference."

Ducks vs Canucks Summary; 3-12-08
Scoring Summary:

Ducks goal: Todd Marchant (8) [Kunitz, Hiller]
Ducks goal: Travis Moen (3) [Marchant, O'Donnell] SH goal
Ducks goal: Rob Niedermayer (6) [Moen, Pahlsson]
Canucks goal: Mason Raymond (9) [Morrison] PP goal
Second period
Ducks goal: Doug Weight (10) [Selanne, Getzlaf] PP goal
Goalies - Jonas Hiller; Roberto Luongo (pulled), Curtis Sanford
The Checking Line had an amazing night, each getting themselves at least one point. They dominated the game, and I don't recall the Sedin Twins or Markus Naslund being a threat all.
